Autism & ADHD Evaluations

Evaluation Services for Adults

Cedar Counseling & Wellness provides neurodiverse-affirming Autism and ADHD evaluations for adults. **If you are looking for evaluations for children and/or adolescents, please navigate here

We are dedicated to fostering an environment that celebrates the uniqueness of every individual. Our evaluations are conducted with a deep understanding and appreciation for neurodiversity, recognizing that neurological differences contribute to the richness of human experiences. We strive to provide a safe and affirming space where individuals can explore their strengths and challenges without judgment.

Whether you’re in search of clarity, greater self- understanding, or validation through a formal diagnosis, our evaluations are designed to be a source of empowerment.

Would you benefit from evaluation services at Cedar Counseling & Wellness?

Our evaluation services are designed for the following individuals:

  • Those Seeking Strengths-Based Approaches: Our evaluations are designed to be intentional and strengths-based, fostering a positive understanding of your experiences.
  • Individuals Exploring Self-Understanding: If you’re on a journey to better understand yourself and how you navigate the world, we are here to meet you where you are.
  • Seeking a Second Opinion: If you’ve had prior testing and are looking for a different perspective, or one that is more neurodiversity affirming, we’re here to provide valuable insights.
  • Family Connections: If you have family members diagnosed with Autism and/or ADHD, and notice similarities in your experiences, our evaluations can offer an additional perspective.
  • Adults (18 years and older): Currently, we focus on evaluations for adults, recognizing the lack of evaluation services offered to this age group.

**Please note that if you are seeking a formal diagnosis for workplace or academic accommodations, a full neuropsychological evaluation by a licensed clinical psychologist may be a better fit for you. During our consultation, we will ensure that our services will meet your needs.

Evaluation Process

Typically, our process includes a consultation, clinical interview, test administration, records review, and feedback session. We are committed to tailoring our evaluation process to your unique needs.

Consultation

You will be given the option for the consultation to be conducted through phone call or video. During the consultation, we will ask what your goals are for the evaluation and decide whether we would be the right fit for you. This is also an opportunity for you to ask any specific questions regarding the process or procedures.

Clinical Interview

BioPsychoSocial Assessment: we will explore your developmental history, family background, physical health throughout your lifespan, academic/ educational background, job/ vocational history, and social relationships.

Test Administration

We use a combination of quantitative and qualitative assessment tools to better understand your strengths, challenges, and needs. Among them are the Monteiro Interview Guidelines for Diagnosing the Autism Spectrum, Second Edition, (MIGDAS-2),  Social Responsiveness Scale, Second Edition (SRS-2), Brown Attention-Deficit Disorder Scale for Adults (Brown ADD Scales), and Diagnostic Interview for ADHD in adults (DIVA-5)

Records Review/ Report Writing

The assessor will take time between the final testing session and feedback session to review your scores, records, and develop a written report with a diagnosis. The full written report typically takes about 3 weeks for the assessor to complete.

Feedback Session

We will discuss the findings, diagnosis, and recommendations. This is a collaborative process and we are open to hearing your thoughts and feedback before finalizing your report.

Session Breakdown

We have room for flexibility if you would prefer to have everything done at one time or broken into shorter appointments. Below is what a typical breakdown of testing looks like.

Autism Evaluation

Session 1 (2 hours): We will get to know each other through the clinical interview and complete the Social Responsiveness Scale, Second Edition (SRS-2) and Brown Attention-Deficit Disorder Scale for Adults (Brown ADD Scales)

Session 2 (2 hours): We will complete the Monteiro Interview Guidelines for Diagnosing the Autism Spectrum, Second Edition, Adults With Verbal Fluency (MIGDAS-2)

Feedback Session (45 minutes- 1 hour): We will discuss the findings, diagnosis, and recommendations. This is a collaborative process and we are open to hearing your thoughts and feedback before finalizing your report.

ADHD Evaluation

Session 1 (2 hours): We will get to know each other through the clinical interview and complete the Brown Attention-Deficit Disorder Scale for Adults (Brown ADD Scales).

Session 2 (2 hours): We will complete the Diagnostic Interview for ADHD in adults (DIVA-5).

Feedback Session (1 hour): We will discuss the findings, diagnosis, and recommendations. This is a collaborative process and we are open to hearing your thoughts and feedback before finalizing your report.

Please note, the testing time whether you are receiving a full or summarized report is the same, the only difference is the amount of detail the clinician provides in the written report.

Written Report Tiers

Full Written Report

This is an option for folks who:

    • Would like to go through the evaluation process and would like detailed recommendations for next steps.
    • May want to see a full narrative and background history of their life and experiences.
    • May want to use this report in other settings (e.g., share with other professionals, use for accommodations).
    • Are interested in understanding more about their sensory, communication, vocational, and emotional strengths and challenges.

The full written report option will include a detailed biopsychosocial report (all relevant background history), outline of all tests that were completed, detailed explanations of observations and scores, a diagnosis if warranted, and specific recommendations.

Short Written Report

This is an option for folks who:

    • May already be receiving support, but would like to have a bit of clarity in diagnosis.
    • May have received prior testing, but would like a second opinion or go through a more neurodiversity affirming process.
    • Are interested in understanding more about their sensory, communication, vocational, and emotional strengths and challenges.
    • This option may also be best for individuals who have some of their support needs in place (e.g., medication management, therapy, lifestyle).

The short written report will include what tests were completed, scores, summarized explanations of observations, a diagnosis if warranted, and generalized recommendations.

1-Page Summary

This is an option for folks who:

    • Primarily would like to go through the evaluation process but do not feel the need to receive a written narrative report.
    • May want the confirmation and validation of a professional diagnosis, but are not planning to seek any form of workplace, school, or other accommodations.
    • Have received prior testing but would like a second opinion or go through a more neurodiversity affirming process.
    • This option may also be best for individuals who have their support needs in place (e.g., medication management, therapy, lifestyle).
