common questions

Therapy works by providing a safe, non-judgmental space to process your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Your therapist should also work with you to develop effective coping strategies, tools, techniques, and resources that can help you lead a more fulfilling life.

The length of session varies by service. Individual therapy sessions tend to be 45-60 minutes in length, though extended sessions may be available to you. Couples therapy and Discernment Counseling sessions tend to be 60-120 minutes in length.

We do not accept insurance. We are a “private pay” or “self-pay” practice, which means that our clients are required to pay the full session fee on the day of service.

You may be eligible to utilize your insurance’s out-of-network benefits. We encourage all clients to connect with their insurance company to learn about out-of-network benefits.

We do have therapists who are non-network non-participating providers with Tricare; this means that you would pay your full session fee on the day of service and file a claim with Tricare for reimbursement (minus your cost share).

This is highly individualized to you! We will take into consideration your current condition, goals, and preferences. Some individuals prefer to be seen weekly (especially at the beginning of treatment), while some prefer to attend therapy every other week. Some clients who have made significant progress opt to be seen for “maintenance” sessions every month or two.

Therapy works best when clients can trust that they have a safe space to share openly and honestly. We take confidentiality very seriously, both legally and ethically.

Therapists are legally required to break confidentiality and report the following:

  • If a client poses an imminent danger to themselves or others.
  • If the therapist suspects child, elder, or dependent adult abuse.
  • If the client has directed the therapist to share information about the case (which would require a signed release of information).
  • If the therapist receives a qualifying court order.

The easiest way to schedule an appointment is to utilize our online scheduler. You can also utilize the “Contact” page to message us, call us at 443-924-6344, or email us at: info@cedarcounselingandwellness.com

We strongly recommend that the quality of treatment be the deciding factor in which therapist you work with- not cost. Therapy is an investment, and its effects can last the rest of your life.

The relationship you establish with your therapist will be a crucial factor in the effectiveness of treatment. You should feel safe, heard, understood, and respected in the therapeutic relationship. Your therapist should demonstrate competence in addressing the issues you are presenting with. We recommend attending three sessions before making a decision, as it can take time to form a comfortable relationship.

This is an individual decision that can be tailored to your unique needs and circumstances. Some clients may only need a few sessions to achieve their therapeutic goals. Others choose to make therapy a long-term addition to their life. That being said, recent research indicates that most clients need between 8 and 20 sessions.
